What is the Truth? by Ivy Jones

What is the Truth?

Is she looking out at the love of her life?
Or was she caught in a moment of fear?
She glances into the unknown waiting,
Listening, silent in the black abyss.

The fabric wrapped around her head shows no
Sign of hair. It is an art form of sorts
The way the two colors of fabric place
Evenly across her head which might have
Taken hours or minutes but presents
Perfect creases, folds, and elegant feel.

The blouse of two colors, white and dark cream,
Indicate the lighting surrounding the
Room she stands in. Maybe she sits, or is
Trying to escape the light shone brightly
On her face. Nothing is certain from this
Image. Only the clothes that she wears and
The color of her skin are clearly shown
And identifiable through this lens.

Girl with the Pearl Earring is what she is
Known best as. For the one pearl that hangs from
Her left ear lobe. It is a great detail
And expensive piece of jewelry for her.
She is of simple clothing and complex
For something so elegant to be worn.

Vermeer was said to be her lover at
The time. It can be speculated that
Nothing ever happened. Only that he
Inspired to make something astonishing.
No one knows the real truth about what they
Shared. Except the Girl with the Pearl Earring.

  1. Ivy I really love the last two lines of this poem because it brings a nice element to the mystery. it also makes it relatable to our live because no one know what we share with other except for ourselves! Great job!- Heidi Curtis
