second painting poem

Lakeside By: Lauren Jernberg
A bright summer day out by the lakeside.
So many people gather to watch the
boats sailing by. With people come dogs that
much you accept, but not when they act like
maniacs. Little children run and play.
All but one child who would much rather stay
With her mom as they walk along to their
Spot. A green patch of grass with a blanket
For sitting, in the shade of big oak trees.
The little girl staying close to mom
wondering why they need umbrellas. It
is not raining there is no chance of it.
What she doesn't know is they don't just
Protect you from rain they shield you from sun.
Something catches her eye on their blanket.
It’s a person she does not recognize.
But her mom sure does. It is her dad back
From the war waiting for his family.
He sits facing the other way waiting.
He is thinking of his wife and daughter
And the last time he saw them. They were sad,
Crying, begging him not to go. But he
Had to leave. He snaps out of his memory
when he hears his wife and daughter talking.
As he turns around and she sees him the
Little girl so shy sprints to him and throws
Herself into her dad's arms. Her mom comes
Next and joins in with the hug. Then her dad
Swings the little girl around and gives her
Mom a big kiss. This nice day became great!
