Silence by Dan-Vy Nguyen

                  Blue Rhapsody by Leonid Afremov

Silence by Dan-Vy Nguyen

As she pulls the bow across the cello,
And feels the vibration from the body,
With sound of the rich tone reaching her ears,
She breathes out a rainbow full of colors.

Each note she plays splashes a color on
The air that surrounds her with randomness.
A piece of art yet to be completed.
Every bow a brush stroke on the canvas.
Every stroke a reflection of her thoughts.

She begins to blend into the painting.
She captivates the audience watching,
While she is lost in her own hypnosis.
She wanders through the corners of her past.

Recalling the day the airplane had crashed.
Replaying that haunting day in her head,
Seeing the smoke emerge from the building
As the towers collapsed, so did her tears.
Wishing she had looked up at the sky,
To see that large block coming down on her.

In the chaos of everything around.
She woke up to a deafening silence.

She picks up her cello for the first time
In years and she begins to pull the bow
Across the strings, her fingers still calloused.
She is perplexed by the things she can see.
From nothingness the colors emanate.
With each note she plays a color,
All very distinct from one another.
The colors paint a picture in her head,
As she pulls the bow across the cello.
