Oceans by Connor Kaplan

Oceans by Connor Kaplan
I don’t think I will ever see a
Poem as beautiful as an ocean.
An ocean calmly moving back and forth
moving at the whim of the winds command.

An ocean does not stare at one god but many.
Poseidon, Oceanus, Kanaloa,
and many others, like Davy Jones or
 the wind, are deities of the sea.

The ocean is a mighty deity.
Ocean’s influence covers three quarters
of our great, unique, lonely planet.
It provides sustenance and nutrients.
 The endless blue wonder gives birth to life.

The ocean is in all seasons at once.
Summer in the north, winter in the south,
Spring and Fall don’t exist in the middle.
Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall in harmony.

Though the life Ocean supports has seasons.
Each species has a season named for them.
Shark season, tuna season, crab season,
even old seaweed has its own season.

Miles upon kilometers of waves.
Less than a league of water  to reach the
bottom of the deepest of deep trenches.
Mountains larger than Everest are hid.
So much to be discovered awaits us.

Poems are made by fools like me.
Fools who do dream of the impossible.
Poems that tell stories of the writer.
But nothing so far can make an ocean.

Poem of the Day: Trees

Posted: Fri, 26 Apr 2013 00:00:00 -0600
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;

A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.

Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
