The Mermaid- by Heidi Curtis
The Mermaid
With satisfaction she sits on the beach.
her dark curls cascade halfway down her back,
the blue of her tail matches the night sky.
The palm trees and rocks are dark as they sleep
next to the brown illuminated sand.
As she watches the waves crashing to shore
she reminisces about her last kill.
A fishing boat that sailed early that day
nine men gasped as they saw her face.
Terrified and delighted one man jumped
exclaiming "Mermaid!" he began to swim.
As he got closer she began to sing
her song sad and sweet took control of him.
She swam deeper and deeper, he followed
under the spell he took his final breath.
She then swam over to give him a kiss
then after his death, she devoured him.
Flesh tearing making blue water turn red,
excited her, she loves feeding on men.
She giggles at the ease of the hunting.
After her mean is through she heads to the beach.
The brown sand now stained dark with the mans blood
holds many dark secrets of the ocean.
She's satisfied digesting on the beach,
as she watches a whale dance she wonders
about the next time she will go hunting.
This flawless creature, a fierce warrior
strategizing the destruction of man
bathes in the bright moonlight of a full moon
unaware of the danger that she's in...

"she reminisces about her last kill." this grabbed my attention right away, I like how its dark like the myths of sirens instead of a Disney fairy tale.
