Top of the World by Kimberly Stutevoss

Top of the World by Kimberly Stutevoss

I’m on top of the world on the highest
Mountain. The deepest river lies below
Separating me from the other side
I take it all in but don’t dare look down
Because I’ve been waiting to smile, I’ve been
Holding it all in for this moment of
Pure ecstasy. The sky above is a
Wonderful mix of blues and whites. It looks
Like an angry ocean thrashing its waves.
I’d like to take you with me if I can
I’ve been dreaming of this adventure since
I was a child listening to the ones
Of my papa as a youth. I never stopped.
I’ve travelled through dirt and gray gravel roads,
Hoping to reach what is the top of the world.
When I have the courage to look down at
My feet I see the white ice cap I stand
Upon and the light brown dirt that spreads down
Until it hits the bluest of rivers.
I wonder what lies beneath the blue sea.
A mysterious creature of the deep
Or just green algae and nothing breathing.
I’m on top of the world on the highest
Mountain. The deepest river lies below
Separating me from the other side
I take it all in and look up above
Because I’ve been waiting to smile, I’ve been
Holding it all in for this moment of
Pure ecstasy. The sky above is a
Wonderful mix of blues and whites. I smile.
