This Most Perfect House by: Nicole Busch

This Most Perfect House
By: Nicole Busch

Standing inside this most perfect big house
with this most perfect little dog and fish,
are these three most perfect people standing
and this almost perfect little backyard.

In this almost perfect little backyard
stands a giant perfect blossoming tree,
providing shade like an open umbrella
to things that choose to lay down there and sleep.

In this not even close to perfect rhyme
that only makes a sane amount of sense,
suddenly the sun bursts right through the clouds
like a finger stabbing through a bubble.

The perfect little girl stands there, amazed.
She is perplexed, staring, stunned at her mom
who erupts into laughter, her laugh so
hearty, so genuine, so beautiful.

Her perfect little daughter’s hair falls out,
so she goes and makes it a perfect braid.
The perfect little girl turns and smiles up
at her perfect mom, and gives her a hug.

A perfect hug, so big, bears get jealous;
so tight, perfect koalas loose their strong grip.
Time freezes, like ice over a cold lake;
the ice a blanket, like the arms hugging.

The little girl gets a perfect shiver
so the big embrace lasts a while longer
time, still frozen, waiting till she gets warm.
Finally, her skin, warm to the touch.

The little girl releases and runs off
to play and pop extra perfect bubbles.

This Most Perfect Hill

On this most perfect hill
with these most perfect dogs
are these most perfect people
and this most perfect fog

In this most perfect fog
that is the middle of the sea
inside the perfect middle of
the things inside that swing

In this most perfect rhyme
that takes up what it sees,
with perfect shelter from the
rain as perfect as can be,

In this most perfect day
at the apex of the sun
runs this most perfect
frog song that is roiling
from the mud

In these most perfect habits
of the waving of the trees,
through this imperfect language
rides a perfect brilliancy.
