Storybook Poem By Sanjana Mahesh
The sun rising over the mountain
how cliche and cliquey
the musings of a middle schooler
thinking another day, same to-do's
clean the tower, wash the dishes
hang the clothes, iron them first

Comb hair, watch the sun
listen as life sings around
her melody and rhythm off

as if she isn't lucky
slide the paint brush, all princesses
know how to paint
slicing, dicing, crafting
separating colors,
black and white does not make gray
perpetual prison of a skull
the absence of color doesn't exclude
shadows and song
unlike Peter Pan, her shadow taunts
prance around my pretty
