STORY
TIME
By ERIKA BEAVER
Many people can look at this
painting,
And relate to the story it is
telling.
When we were young, our
imaginations
Created worlds around us, like we
see here.
Outside the room it is cold and
rainy,
A perfect night for a bedtime story.
The bright lamp on the table near
the bed
Warms the room, in contrast to the
cold night.
The little girl reads stories from
her book.
Its’ brown, blank cover, doesn’t
tell what’s inside.
There is a black knight prancing on
the page.
But that is just about all you can
see.
The dragon has his eyes fixed on
the book.
He sits, waiting to hear what
happens next.
His big green fingers are wrapped
in the sheet,
He holds it up to his face like
he’s scared.
The spaghetti haired doll and the teddy
Sit together, protecting each other.
Their eyes, wide like the mouth of
the ocean.
Frozen in time, as if they are
statues.
The drawing on the wall behind the
girl,
Tells me that she really loves her
dragon.
Not a part of her imagination,
But a real friend she likes
spending time with.
A
purple blanket drapes over her bed, ,
Acting as a shield against the dark
knight.
That is about to jump out of the
book,
And into the walls surrounding her
room.
