Secrets of the Meaning
by Connor Kaplan
One day a boy discovered a secret.
This secret is known by the few, smart.
Intelligence does not need to be there,
but more of a realization needed.
This secret is rather simple but needs
two things, clarity and understanding.
The clarity is to find the secret,
as it’s right in front of you all along.
You need understanding because it’s to
simple that you would reject the secret.
This gets me wondering what others think.
Other people and other animals
Do they think they know, or just about
their pain, confusion of never knowing.
Or do other people admit their lack
of understanding or motivation.
The other organisms might know this
hidden information, but then is it
actually a secret, or maybe it’s
supposed to be hidden to only man.
Secrets and lies cause pain that we don’t want.
So why keep this a secret at all, why lie.
Well most likely everyone who has learned
the information has tried to tell and
has failed, not because they stopped but because
no one will believe you unless they hold
two traits in order
to find this secret.
People hold on to the complicated.
They choose to believe the less “negative.”
To be born, to reproduce, to decease.

Poem of the Day: The Secret
Posted: Fri, 03 May 2013 00:00:00 -0600
Two girls discover
the secret of life
in a sudden line of
poetry.
I who don’t know the
secret wrote
the line. They
told me
(through a third person)
they had found it
but not what it was
not even
what line it was. No doubt
by now, more than a week
later, they have forgotten
the secret,
the line, the name of
the poem. I love them
for finding what
I can’t find,
and for loving me
for the line I wrote,
and for forgetting it
so that
a thousand times, till death
finds them, they may
discover it again, in other
lines
in other
happenings. And for
wanting to know it,
for
assuming there is
such a secret, yes,
for that
most of all.
