One Messy Dorm Room by Joey Ng

One Messy Dorm Room by Joey Ng

There exists a place
In cloudy Corvallis
That seemingly defies
All logic and reason.

The sanctum of
Grown college children
Released on their own
Free to do anything
That they condone.

Inside, the conditions
Are deplorable and bleak,
To step foot inside
Is not for the meek.

Upon opening the door,
A pungent odor escapes:
It’s eau de old spice;
And what’s that? Stale fried rice?

Stepping further into
Festering laundry
And trash bags piled high,
Soda cans stacked to the sky.

Like a torrentuous downpour
Of filth and destruction had hit,
Quite honestly, it smelled like shit.

In the end I guess we’re all
A little bit messy.
At best, a few scattered shoes,
At worst, a questionable
Gym sock or two…
