Girls By: Lauren Jernberg
Two girls discover
something during their
Gossiping session.
Their giggles turn to
Laughter. And
those around them stare. What are
They talking
about? They talk about people
And the
happenings at school. They talk about
The girl who
just walked by in the strange
Outfit. They
gossip. Tearing into lives
Like a
starving lion catching it’s first
Meal. Once they
start it is hard to stop. An
Addiction some
people say. No different
Then using
drugs. But this has the opposite
Affect. Where
drugs hurt you the more you use,
Gossip hurts
others. The girls who gossip
May not see
it but they could be pulling
A trigger for
someone on the edge. It
Hurts to be
talked about in a poor manner.
The girls
keep on at it. They found new dirt
On someone
new. A secret they say for
Only you and
me. Till one blabs then the
Whole school
knows and the story has changed.
Going from
something funny that happened
To something
horrible. The one they talk
About feels
so alone. Her friends tell her
It will just
blow over but not to her.
This sticks
to her like super glue it comes
Off but it
takes a long time. They do not
Realize the
hurt she carries. Girls can be
So cruel. They
act like your friend but keep a
Knife behind
your back for safe keeping.
These rumors
are a girl’s true best friend.
The Secret By: Denise Levertov
Two girls
discover
the secret
of life
in a sudden
line of
poetry.
I who don’t
know the
secret
wrote
the line.
They
told me
(through a
third person)
they had
found it
but not what
it was
not even
what line it
was. No doubt
by now, more
than a week
later, they
have forgotten
the secret,
the line,
the name of
the poem. I
love them
for finding
what
I can’t
find,
and for
loving me
for the line
I wrote,
and for
forgetting it
so that
a thousand
times, till death
finds them,
they may
discover it
again, in other
lines
in
other
happenings.
And for
wanting to
know it,
for
assuming
there is
such a
secret, yes,
for
that
most of all.
