The Secret We Share-By Katie Hedgepeth

The secret lies between us, it will not
Ever be discovered by anyone
Else. The path of eternal bliss lies in
Front of us and we will uncover the
Secrets hidden from the past. The dark
Cave lies in front of us and we will soon
Enter into a new world, where no one
Has ever been, for it is a secret.

The darkness fills around us as we walk
Into this damp covered cave. We hold
The birthday like candles in our hands tight
And make sure to cradle them in our hands
To ensure they will not go out.  For these
Are the only light sources that we have.
Without these, we are lost and won’t know where
To go, or where we should take the next turn.
Secrets are about to be uncovered.

The gold lies in front of us, glittering
In our eyes. Running towards the glamorous
Jewels that surround us while we pick them up.
One lies on top of another, sprinkled
All over the floor. Running all over
The place as we hurry to pick them up.
Throwing the gems in our pockets or
In the air as we jump for joy, for this
Day has finally came. Loving life more
Than ever, for we will no longer be
Poor, we will no longer have to work in
The factory and will now be rich! For
This is our secret and no one else’s!

The Secret-By Denise Levertov

Two girls discover
the secret of life
in a sudden line of
poetry.

I who don’t know the
secret wrote
the line. They
told me

(through a third person)
they had found it
but not what it was
not even

what line it was. No doubt
by now, more than a week
later, they have forgotten
the secret,

the line, the name of
the poem. I love them
for finding what
I can’t find,

and for loving me
for the line I wrote,
and for forgetting it
so that

a thousand times, till death
finds them, they may
discover it again, in other
lines

in other
happenings. And for
wanting to know it,
for

assuming there is
such a secret, yes,
for that
most of all.
