The Life That Could Have Been by Kathleen Fellows

The Life That Could Have Been

I am tempted by two delicious things,
the pina colada and the round, wet, fresh, grapes.
Both are present in my picnic basket
I packed for this African Safari.
I suppose there is no need to choose one.
That is like deciding between buying
a mystery van or a brown shag rug.
Both are disgusting and no longer bought,
so you would end up with neither of them.

Cans of paint are bodies of water, but
not natural like an ocean or a lake.
Can’t open either with can openers.
Muhammad could open up an ocean,
he would find a way to with a horse shoe.
Kareem Abdul-Jabber would open, too
but the paint can with his solid man-grip.

I know plenty of planets have some moons.
My favorite planets is Neptune, some how,
which is unlike my favorite food, coffee.
Yes, that was a great cop out. Very classy.

Periwinkle overlaps my color.
It’s good to know what periwinkle is,
which could be the color of dinosaurs,
but peacock feather print would be better.

I am thankful I am not in So Cal.
My sister tried living there years ago.
it was almost a train wreck. That is steep
and she never took any trains rides there.

I really have a calico kitty
that chases ants and eats everyone’s socks.
