Knowledge Hannah Pedersen

Knowledge

The two most important days
where when you were born
and when you figured out why.

From then every birthday,
Bragging of balloons and birth,
is a reminder of a health class you should have skipped
or that national geographic you wished you put down.

You can’t have your cake
And now you don’t want to eat it too.

The stork must have been vacationing that day
basking in the sun, margarita in wing
or maybe a sick day, picture a beak sneezing.

Instead of a warm cradle on the front porch,
illumination from sunlight and surprise,
a hospital room filled with hundred of others,
and in the future a man will appear,
saying he was there too.

Maybe we came out crying,
Because somehow we knew,
What exactly it took to make you.
