PRE School by Abhishek Raol

PRE School

He gets out of bed but he’s been awake forever
Fearful, nervous yet somehow excited
Slowly, he starts getting ready
Embracing his last day of being uneducated

Fearful, nervous yet somehow excited
Can’t decide if he’s ready or not
Slowly he starts getting ready
Trying to take as long possible

Can’t decide if he’s ready or not
Making sure he’s well fed well prepared for today
Trying to take as long as possible
He washes his own dish today and even combs his hair twice

Making sure he’s well fed and prepared for today
He double checks what’s in his lunchbox
He washes his own dish today and even combs his hair twice
He’s all grown up now, he must impress everyone

He double checks what’s in his lunchbox
A backpack just for food, he doesn’t understand it
He’s all grown up now, he must impress everyone
He wears his hot wheels shirt

A backpack for food, he doesn’t understand it
A backpack full of paper, why does he need it?
He wears his hot wheels shirt
It’s not cool enough, needs more dirt

A backpack full of paper, why does he need it?
He feels like an explorer, but without his bike
It’s not cool enough, needs more dirt
What’s this need to be so neat?

He feels like an explorer, but without his bike
But like an explorer without and freedom
What’s this need to be so neat?
First day of school…ever

  1. Abhishek, I really like how you incorporated all of those details into your story. It brought me back to my first day of school. I remember feeling everything you just described. Love this poem!
