The Higher Powers by Ivy Jones

The Higher Powers

College students, Dionysus, relate.
He God of wine, parties, and festivals.
How did the Greeks know about college life?

There are many Greek Gods and Goddesses.
Each came from Zeus. God of weather and storms.
He has always been the most powerful
Of all the Gods. He leads them in times of
Struggle and war. Ruler of the high sky
And Mount Olympus, the Gods light homeland.
How did the Greeks keep track of all of them?

A brother of Zeus is a powerful
Gift. One can control the ebb of a sea,
The shake of the earth, the flood of the fields,
And created a majestically life
Of a horse. Poseidon brother of both.

Next is Hades, brother of dark and death.
There is no light where he decides to go
For creatures of the night follow in black.
He keeps the hidden wealth to himself for
No one is as deserving as he, is
What he would say. Keeper of the life span.

Artemis Goddess of hunt, wilderness,
And young girls who watches over us from
The moon which helps control the tides flowing.

Love, beauty, desire, and pleasure are
Her strengths. Aphrodite controls the good.
No restraint; but still might lose her temper.
She has many lovers, even after
Marriages bond. Loving till the end time.
What can be given to Aphrodite?

Poem of the Day:
[I asked myself / What, Sappho, can...]
BY SAPPHO
TRANSLATED BY MARY BARNARD
I asked myself

What, Sappho, can
you give one who
has everything,
like Aphrodite?
