Subject to Change by Corynn Bernhardt
And there, on the carpet below, fell stars.
Gravity had no place, neither did time.
The kind of stars that compete with street lights
Of many and many of city streets,
Where the glow of the orange is no match for
The glistening crystals, like on a watch.
Trying to tell time, but no one can read.
There is no shadow. There is no dial.
There is only the pattern from this point
Of view. Here, there’s only one perspective.
Yet, we have not considered another
Other than our own, as if we’ve never
Read a book about someone else’s life.
Way up there, it’s telling it’s own story
Of how and what is meant to be. Alas,
If we do not ask, we shall never know.
But who is to know, and who is to tell
What story those stars are telling us now.
But here in this night, in this room, they fell,
And they fall without recollection of
Time or space or gravity, boundless stars
Jumping and hopping and wishing and fall
To the ground in this room on the carpet.
If it catches fire, let it be so.
Once you let it go, there’s more room to grow.
Let it burn, let it glow, the stars on the floor
Have no where to go but down from their height.
As the night melts away, like an ice pack,
Grass takes on its dew to start tomorrow,
The stars on the ground evaporate. Gone.
It’s not gravity, or time, just stories
Told from one perspective, standing right here.
You can only find a new one if you
Move.

sweet companions-sharing your bunk and your bed" By Marina Tsvetaeva
I like to read the lines,
ReplyDelete"Once you let it go, there's more room to grow.
Let it burn, let it glow, the stars on the floor."
The rhythm and rhyming those two lines create make it very enjoyable to read aloud.
I like the third stanza,
ReplyDelete"Trying to tell time, but no one can read.
There is no shadow. There is no dial.
There is only the pattern from this point
Of view. Here, there’s only one perspective."
You were describing how it is like a watch but it really doesn't sound like one. I like the irony of that and how it gets you thinking.
