Locally Frozen by Ivy Jones

Locally Frozen

How do you, know where to go in a town.
To find old vintage buildings of the past,
that created the foundations in the
town that modernizes day after day.

The locally owned diner once stood tall;
but now lies in rubble from here on in.
The delivery truck still drives by it
like an unspoken path that cannot be
broken or erased with time progressing.

How do you, stand tall in a frozen town.
Traditional values embedded here
where change is seen as a terrible thing.
It is easy to recognize faces,
in a small town like this one; but soon they
blur into a mesh of broken-down goods.
The only distinguishing features here
are the black and white viewpoints with no grey.

Here is where time is frozen and nothing
happens. A person must follow the rules.
Everyone must look alike. From UGGs to
yoga pants and the fake summer glow of
tanning in the winter when no sun shows.
Sports must be played for at least on season.
Anyone different will be excluded.

How do you, fit into a town like this?
Trying change only leads to frustration
because no one is welcome into the
group; unless the cover matches the rest.
Meeting these standards makes it hard for most.
Read the book by its cover to find out.

Poem of the Day: How do you by Kabir

How do you,
Asks the chief of police,
Patrol a city
Where the butcher shops
Are guarded by vultures;
Where bulls get pregnant,
Cows are barren,
And calves give milk
Three times a day;
Where mice are boatmen
And tomcats the boats
They row;
Where frogs keep snakes
As watchdogs,
And jackals
Go after lions?

Does anyone know
What I’m talking about?
Says Kabir.
