It by Ivy Jones

It

Sometimes it has three sometimes it has four.
It is commonly used in the U.S.
This great invention makes eating easy
And allows anyone to eat in a
Hurry. It does look rather weird to some
Who have never seen or used it at a
Meal time. It could be seen as a weapon.
Wield like a sward to protect from strangers.

Another could use it as a hair comb
To twist, twirl, and turn the hair into curls.
They would look spectacular for a ball,
Especially if your prince charming is
There. To whisk you away at 12 o’clock.

For someone with a hook instead of a
Hand, it could make consumption easier.
Meat and potatoes could be eaten fast.
With this as the replacement of a hand.

Shiny silver that reflects when polished
Will grab the attention of sinister
People. They will not hesitate for a
Minute cause the price they will receive is
All they care about. Their reasoning is
Usually not very good because
It will pay for habits, not good for them.

Sometimes it has three and sometimes it has four.
Its handle is long and straight which makes it
Easy to hold. Not everyone prefers
This utensil for meal times, but it can
Be seen in almost every house in town.
“What is it?” You may ask. A fork that’s all.

Poem of the Day: Fork by Charles Simic

This strange thing must have crept
Right out of hell.
It resembles a bird’s foot
Worn around the cannibal’s neck.

As you hold it in your hand,
As you stab with it into a piece of meat,
It is possible to imagine the rest of the bird:
Its head which like your fist
Is large, bald, beakless, and blind.
